Now because i do realize that this review is all over the place here is the TL DR:ġ) The songs that are in the "worlds" that come with the game are well mapped and fun to playĢ) You can download more maps from the workshop (ill get to this in the bad as well)ġ) The very strict note hitting makes the game frustrating to play, because one miss means you are dead. This makes improvement much harder since the maps that are available will have higher skill gaps between maps than games with many maps and songs. This makes it so the choice of songs mappers can well, map, is much, MUCH stricter than usual, and the outcome is even less maps. In ADOFAI, you are limited strictly to the songs artists have given explicit permission to use for ADOFAI, unlike games like osu! or Beat Saber. That brings me to my third point, and my point that doesn't just affect ADOFAI, but other rhythm games as well such as Beat Saber the lack of (good) maps, or even worse in ADOFAI's case, song variety. This type of game really favors people who keep playing one map over and over again, (boring, imo) instead of people who like playing a wide range of maps and listen to many different songs. "Oh, you got though 80% of the map? Well I'm switching patterns now, so better be prepared to hit this note where for which there are no reasons to believe i should be here beforehand." This makes improving at ADOFAI very difficult and in my opinion, very frustrating to play. More-so than with other games like guitar hero or osu!, because here, a miss means you are DEAD, no second chances. There also lies my second issue with the game.īecause of the way ADOFAI is structured, missing a note is critical. There seems to be no transition block (or note, whatevs) that allows for smooth transitions between patterns, which leads to a miss. But as soon as a song switches focus, or a mapper wants to focus on a new pattern in the song, it quickly falls apart. If a song has one main lead to follow, or pattern that it always has, this game works wonders.

My main issue with ADOFAI is the fact that it seems to restrict mappers in the maps they can create, thus limiting the fun that can be had. It's fun and addicting at first, but gets frustrating quickly.

(TL DR at the end)ĪDOFAI (A Dance Of Fire And Ice) has one of the simpler premises i've seen for rhythm games. Yes 40 hours, no, not recommending the game.
